Stage 1 of 6: on the projects list. The Council has agreed to put this on its list of projects. Nothing else has been decided yet.
Now: We are asking what people think.
About this idea
Parks, play areas, planting and public spaces shape how a town feels. The draft Strategic Plan says the Council wants to take a more active role in owning, managing and caring for local places, where that is sustainable and good for the town, so that decisions are made closer to the community and improvements reflect what local people want. One way to do that would be for the Town Council to take over ownership of [the town's public parks, which are owned today by ...].
What it would mean
If the Town Council owned the parks, it would decide how they are looked after and improved, and it would pay for that. Any decision would be based on a careful look at the long-term costs, responsibilities and benefits. [The Council to say what it can about cost, and about the Town Council's part of council tax.]
