Got an idea for Tiverton?
You know Tiverton better than anyone. If you have an idea for a project, an event or an improvement, large or small, tell us here. Every idea is read by the Council’s Strategic Projects team, and we publish what we decide about it, and why.
What makes a good idea?
An idea can be anything that would make Tiverton a better place to live, work or visit. The best ones help with one of the five priorities in our draft Strategic Plan. For example:
- an event, such as a food festival or a heritage walk
- an improvement to a park, a play area or a street
- something for young people
- a better way for the Council to work, or to keep people informed
A sentence is enough. You do not need costs, drawings or permission. If you, or a group you belong to, could help make it happen, the form asks.
Not an idea? To report a problem, such as a pothole, a broken streetlight or an overflowing bin, contact Devon County Council or Mid Devon District Council. To comment on a planning application, go to Mid Devon District Council. For anything else, contact us.
What happens to your idea
- You share it Fill in the short form, which takes about three minutes. You get an idea number, and a private link to see how it is getting on.
- We read it The Strategic Projects team reads every idea within four weeks. If someone has sent the same idea, we join them so they are decided together.
- We decide We decide what to do with it, and write down why.
- We publish it The decision and the reason go in the table below, with a short title for the idea in our words. If you gave your email address, we tell you too.
- It becomes a project Ideas taken forward join the projects list, where each has a page with its news and often a chance to have your say.
What our decisions mean
-
Taken forward
We will look into it as a project, or it joins a project already on our list.
-
Under consultation
It is part of something we are asking people about now. We will decide once we have heard what everyone thinks.
-
Already happening
The Council, or someone else, is already doing it, or something very like it.
-
For another organisation
Someone else is responsible for it, such as Devon County Council or Mid Devon District Council. We say who.
-
Not taken forward
We will not take it forward, at least for now, and we always say why.
Decisions on ideas

Questions about ideas
Can I share more than one idea?
Yes. Send each one on its own, so each can be decided on its own.
How long until there is a decision?
Most ideas are decided within three months. You can see where yours has got to with the private link you are given when you send it.
Will my idea go ahead?
We can’t guarantee that an idea will be delivered. Many need funding, partners or permissions first. But every idea gets a fair look.
What if someone has already suggested it?
Send it anyway. We join matching ideas together, and you can still follow the decision with your own link.
Will my name be published?
No. We publish a short title for your idea, in our own words, and the decision. Never your name or how to contact you. Our privacy notice says more.
I am under 13. Can I share an idea?
Yes. Ask a parent or carer to send it for you, with their email address.
What if I have a question about a decision?
Open the idea’s page from the table and choose Ask a question. We reply privately, and never publish your question or your name.
Is this the same as the survey on the draft plan?
No. The survey asks what you think of the plan’s vision and priorities. Ideas are suggestions for things to do. You are welcome to do both.
