Stage 2 of 6: being explored. We are finding out whether this could work: what it might cost, who would need to be involved, and whether people want it.
Now: The full council has decided to look into this.
Bringing an empty shop back to life
Empty shops make a town centre feel sad. We think one could become something special: a flexible community and enterprise hub where people of every age can meet, learn, make things happen and get involved.
We’re looking at whether we could lease or buy an empty shop in the town centre to make it happen.
An idea from young people
When we asked Tiverton’s young people what they’d love to see, one idea stood out: a pop-up shop they run themselves, where they can learn business skills, give something back to the community and raise money. A hub in the town centre could be the perfect home for it.
What could happen there?
That’s where you come in. It could be a base for local charities and groups, a place for clubs, workshops and exhibitions, somewhere to get advice and information, or simply somewhere warm and welcoming to sit and chat. Local charities have already told us they’d love to share a space like this. Tell us what you’d use it for, and what would make it great.

Questions and answers
Which shop?
None has been chosen yet. We’re looking for suitable places, and what you tell us will help us know what we need.
Would we rent it or buy it?
We’re looking at both, along with the grants that could help. We’ll weigh up the costs and bring a plan back to the full council before anything is decided.
Who would run it?
That’s one of the things we’d like your views on. Tell us in the survey.
